Disposable Literature

Today there was a talk by 2 Malaysian Writers that were Sufian Abas and Chuah Guat Eng.. Supposedly Amir Muhamad was coming but unfortunately he was still in Bangkok this morning. The other two writers were somehow, missing in action.. I enjoyed hearing them talking and at one point or another was greatly inspired by them.. The only thing that drove me up the wall was that how narrow-minded one could be despite the fact that well, her age, the environment and what not.. They noted that they were some grammatical errors (the book by him is in BM, this book is meant for adults) and misspelling and everything and it could do harm to anyone who read it. come on.. you are 23, 24 year-old and some mispelling wouldn't do you any harm, I suppose. At this age, I'm pretty sure you know what's right and what's wrong, kan? And so many people were saying about the same thing and me and shasya were like.. damn.. what the hell.. some were blaming the environment of Malaysia in which, We MALAYSIANS don't read and writing a book that has the element of disposable literature wouldn't do any good.. so what? If you read, then go on.. it's not like when you write a book.. you expect every people in Malaysia would read it. NO.. and reading on the bus? if you feel like it, then do it.. if not, then don't..Some people don't read on the bus for reasons laa.. bukannya suma yg xbaca xsuka baca.. In fact, I've seen some youngsters did read on the LRT.. It's just not in our culture.. Don't be so narrow minded and set how a piece of work should be written.. Sufian's work is indeed good and different.. he wrote cerpen that has the disposable literature element in it.. Hearing comments from Chuah, Mazlan and Quayum, I was relieved that they are actually admired this man (he was English graduate-first batch) for his creativity and effort. one's creative mind shouldn't be stopped, right? even if it doesn't go together with the conventional ideas of short story.. We should appreciate his work and I believe this new branch literature that has been there in Japan, America for so long will somehow find it's way in Malaysia.

I really like Chuah Guat Eng's work.. She's so good and I really wanna be just like her.. All the best to them!
